Tour de Clase

 Welcome to 5G!

This room is full of flavor!

Students sit together in groups of 4 or 5.  We call these groups teams.  And each team has its own continental identity.

 .

Each student has their own mailbox, and mail is picked up as part of our End of the Day Procedures.

Each student has a job to do in the classroom, and each week these jobs rotate.  Some of our classroom jobs include:
 Energy Saver
Flight Attendants
Pilot
Co-Pilot
Operations Manager
Librarian
Secretary
Custodian
 Security Guard
Mechanics
Images of people, places and animals from around the world fill the room!

Below these images, the classroom library is growing--filling with books to pique student interest and to encourage curiosity and research....

I have but 4 simple rules that basically encompass the life-skills of preparedness, kindness and responsibility.

These rules are posted:
  1. Always enter the classroom quietly and ready to receive instructions/begin the next activity.
  2. Listen to & follow all directions.
  3. No blurting: think twice, speak once!
  4. Abide by the Heritage Creed: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready!

Students will record important notices and homework assignments in their personal planners.  These notices/assignments will be written on the board each day.

Interactive Read Alouds are still a vital part of Language Arts in 5th Grade!
Students gather to hear fluency and voice modeled.  Further, we discuss and process out loud, building comprehension skills.  An Interactive Read Aloud is also a great way to model & practice using evidence from the text to support your thinking! In 5G, we gather together in front of the window to read aloud together.
